Lhasa to Chengdu

Time to head back to China. We left, reluctantly, but knowing that we’d be back. Since Beijing time rules across China and Tibet, the sun didn’t rise until late, so we made our way on the public bus in the darkness to the airport. We got into Chengdu- the heat was a little less oppressive than when we left- partly due to the awful air pollution. We headed back to the Traffic Hotel, checked in, called our taxi driver, and hired him to help us run a few errands.
We had no luck with the PSB and getting our visas extended. They were closed on Friday afternoons- start of the Chinese weekend, So, we headed to the Holiday Inn for a chance to get some news (a Herald Tribune)- the first newspaper we’d seen since leaving for Tibet and a cold beer.
