B’charre – Kadisha Valley - Byblos

A bit of backtracking through Baalbek and the Bekaa Valley to B’charre and the “Cedars of Lebanon”. The scenery was spectacular- over the Lebanon Mountains. We had a bite to eat at a roadside stand (some Lebanese specialty- a crepe with pesto sauce). The “Cedars” were interesting. Expecting a forest of beautiful cedar trees, we walked into what’s left of the original forest…about 20 trees surrounded by a parking lot and souvenir stands.

They’re located in the Kadisha Valley, which was truly amazing. We took a very tiny winding road into the valley…hairpin turns and hoping not to meet any of the 20-year-old testosterone laden Lebanese boys on the curves.

Then it was on to Byblos, a beautiful coastal town, where we splurged on a hotel room right on the harbor. We took a very short walk- the humidity was insufferable and we dove into the “El Molino” restaurant for an evening of really good Mexican food and margaritas (and arctic A/C).
