Note the roadside sign....
We continued down the coast (with a quick stop in Beirut to get a feel for the city on a slow traffic day) and drove on to Sidon and Tyre.
Interesting note- almost 40% of the cars on the road are 15 year old Mercedes, the rest are BMW’s.

Sidon was fairly unimpressive….not much left to the ruins of the old Phoenician city.
Tyre is the southernmost large city in Lebanon accessible to tourists. The Israeli controlled security zone starts just beyond the city. With the extreme heat, we did more of a drive-by than a walking tour of the sites. Just too many Roman cities….
Rather than spend the night in Tyre, we headed back to Beirut, got a hotel and spent the evening at the Mayflower Hotel’s ex-pat bar. Cheese sandwiches and beer and a bit of wisdom from the ex-pats on Lebanese driving.
