Back to Istanbul...

We left our flophouse early in the morning (the hotel didn’t even have a top sheet on the bed). We got in line for the hydrofoil back to Istanbul. What a sight- the boat carries 800 people and 200 cars and travels at 25 mph. It makes the trip in 1 hour, 45 minutes (it takes a normal ferry 4 ½ hours!). You park your car and head to your assigned seat in the lounge where you can get coffee and pastries, watch TV. It saved us tons of driving time and we made it into Istanbul by 12:00.

It was like coming home…. a familiar hotel, stores, people who remember you. We ran a ton of errands- got train tickets in Taksim Square, arranged to turn in the “pig”, went to Citibank, talked with Nick (the Armenian at the bazaar) to get info on travel in Armenia…then had a wonderful dinner with our friend at Rumeli Café. He introduced us to his friend who is a guide and we had a wonderful evening talking with him and his fiancée from New Jersey.
