A half-day in Pammukale was more than enough, so we headed off early in the morning for Bodrum. Since our last visit, it’s gotten much more commercial and was filled with cruise ship tourists off the boat for a day of shopping. Christine and I scoped out the waterfront hotels and found a deal at 5M lire for a hotel right on the waterfront with balconies overlooking the harbor.

We hiked to the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus. There wasn’t not much left of what was once one of the 7 Wonders of the World. Most of the stones were carted off by the Crusaders to build their fortress on the harbor. Shopping took up most of the rest of the afternoon…a haven of evil eye vendors.
We decided to splurge at dinner at Picante (a Mexican restaurant that Christine’s friend recommended). After our $8 margaritas and over priced, under sized appetizers with non-existent service, we asked for our check. When the manager asked why we were leaving, we explained- and she told us that our drinks and snacks were on the house. We settled on dinner on the water at the “Italian, Indian, Chinese and Mexican” restaurant.
