On to Cappadocia

Call to prayer equals call to driving. It was time to head out of Istanbul and into Central Turkey. The big white van was not going to set any land speed records, but it did offer a back seat to stretch out on. McDonalds has the franchise for rest stop food so it was burgers and diet coke for breakfast.

10 hours and we were finally in Cappadocia. The search for a hotel took us from Uchisar to Goreme to Urgup…. finally settling on a little pension in Urgup run by a lovely couple who said, “Our home is your home”.

Dinner was at a converted han in the middle of the city. Once again, there were no tourists. After dinner, we strolled through the town and in one of the shops met the son of one of the shops’ owners. He is attending college in the States and we spent an hour or so talking with him about Turkey, politics, religion, the PKK…
